So I got a new Hard Drive (Western Digital 160Gb Caviar Blue SATA), connected it to my Motherboard, checked that it was recognized in the BIOS (it was), started windows XP and oh $#@%, Windows wouldn’t detect it.
After reading about a thousand posts in many different forums, that suggested a wide range of solutions, from updating my Motherboard’s BIOS firmware, to editing the Windows registry; and trying all of them, it turns out that the solution was simpler than I could have ever thought.
This problem was due to the order the hard drives were connected to the motherboard and some jumpers in other hard drives and cd/dvd drives.
If you are having this same problem, check that all your cd/dvd drives have the jumpers set to slave (if they are PATA) and that your hard drive is connected in a SATA port that has higher priority than the ones you have your other drives connected (connect it to SATA port 0 or 1).
That did it for me, hope it helps you.
Good luck!
